Fenced

Oh how easy to unravel and quickly come undone
when it took years of sweat and tears to twine this mess up as one.
The jewel has tarnished,
the wood's lost varnish it blends into shades of grey
and we're left with ears grown deaf
and lips trembling no words to say.
And all that stands is a fence now,
I want to cross over, but how
since understanding had broken away.
Help me
the air's grown thick with an anticipation of what's to come.
No one knows just what to do to mend what's already been done.
It crackles like static. We broke into fragments and scattered in disarray.
All in the worlds we made pretending to look the other way.
The silence sounding in my head
must be harsher than any word you could have said.
Hey I want, I need, got to hear it.
Open up, talk to me, come on, clear it.
No words, no nothing is tearing me to shreds.
Smiles passing.
Don't have to hide the truth in all our eyes.
We feel the tension we don't mention when we hug and say goodbye.
Words won't come to calm and numb the pain that burns so real.
How do you feel....what do you feel?
And all that stands is a fence now,
I want to cross over, but how
since understand had broken away.
